Dear Readers,
As the weather grows crisper and the evenings set in earlier, we hope your Fall 2024 is off to a good start. To our student subscribers, all the best as you’re hopefully getting more acclimatized to the routine of class schedules and/or internships.
August went by in a blur, yet we did have an amazing time at our monthly General Meeting “ASIS&T in a Bite” where we invited students to grab their favorite snack(s) and join us to learn more about our organization, student membership benefits, leadership opportunities, and this semester’s upcoming events and activities.
ASIS&T SC and the other student organizations at the SJSU iSchool participated in the Meet ‘n Greet (Fall 2024 edition) on Thursday, September 5th @ 5 pm Pacific Time. During this event, all iSchool student organizations shared what their unique group is about, what’s new and upcoming, diverse leadership opportunities, and future events and activities. After each group presented, iSchool students were invited to breakout rooms to discover more about and engage with the groups that sparked their interest.
On Friday, September 20th at 5 pm Pacific Time, we’re excited to have a special speaker Dr. Lubna Daraz, Assistant Professor in the School of Library and Information Science, Faculty of Arts and Sciences at the University of Montreal share on “Digital Health Literacy: Understanding Health Information Needs & Retrieval Methods.” Before teaching at the University of Montreal, Dr. Daraz was an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Research Fellow at the Mayo Clinic.
